Febuary: month in review

February saw us venture East to the Northumbrian Coast. Definitely one to repeat…

What’s this month’s image? It’s a house called the Bathing House on the Northumbrian coast, not far from Craster. You can just make out Dunstanburgh Castle in the background.

Did you do anything to it? Very little. There was a little bit of clean up of litter, which was disappointing, but the late afternoon winter light gives the image its warmth and saturation.

What’s it doing here? Helen and I had a few days down on the Northumbrian coast; a couple of days in Berwick-upon-Tweed and a couple of days in Alnwick. Embarrassingly it’s not a part of the country where we’ve spent very much time at all, something which we both regret and intend to put right.

The coast around the area is fantastic; some decent cliffs and plenty of long, sandy beaches. It also seems that the good folk of Northumbria were very fond of a castle, the bigger the better. The three that feature here - Dunstanburgh, Alnwick and Bamburgh - are all impressive in their own fashion. It is, however, the beaches and smaller villages along the coast that really attracted Helen and I. The beach at Beadnell and Amble in particular stood out for us, while Spittal is somewhere we could happily while away more than a couple of hours. It would also be remiss not to mention Lindisfarne, which is equally photogenic.

What appealed to me was the variety of locations and subjects. There’s obviously far more to explore and we hope to be back sooner rather than later. A small selection from the trip is below.

Have you been up to much else? The rest of the month was quite quiet photographically (although busy elsewhere). We did manage a couple of local walks and another trip to the biting cold beaches of Troon. It also rained, which the cat seemed to think was my fault…

Coming Up

I’m just starting to sift through the late February / early March trip to Lewis and Harris, which I’ll post separately as some point. After that, we’ve nothing planned for a change…
