Welcome

Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends, we’re so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside…

Welcome to the site. My objective with this blog is to entertain and inform in equal measure. So if you’re left none the wiser and utterly unamused then I will, on that measure at least, have succeeded… However, I am hoping that I can do more than drag myself over that particularly low bar.

The site itself is primarily a showcase for my photographic endeavours; I would by no means represent myself as an expert or professional, but I am hopefully still learning, developing and improving. If along the way the images I present can bring some measure of pleasure or you can learn from my mistakes, then that is a reward in itself.

The blog aims to expand upon my thought process (as in, ‘what on earth were you thinking?’) as well as give me a space to think aloud; the audience, then, is as much myself as it is the outside world. I’ll try to keep the content relevant to photography (but can’t promise that will always be the case) and focussed more on images than gear. There is a wealth or material out there that concentrates on the technical specifications of the latest kit - I can’t (and don’t want to) compete. That said, where I think the kit I use has an impact on the images I take and how I take them, then I may meander down that blind alley.

The image accompanying this post is one of my earlier shots. It’s not the oldest image in my catalogue, but it is one of the views that inspired me to start taking photography a little more seriously. The view is taken from Tighnabruaich, in Argyll, looking over Bute towards Arran. We used to spend quite some time over there and I’d never managed to get a snap that did the landscape justice. While not perfect, this started to redress the balance.

I’d be happy to hear thoughts, feedback and constructive criticism. If, however, you simply want to hurl abuse, then open a Twitter account. But, as the wonderful Chris Sutton might say, you’re better than that…

Thank you and enjoy!
