Ross Sands

Amongst the more prominent mainland features that can be seen from Holy Island are the navigation aids at Guile Point on Ross Sands. It’s a good walk out to the point, but generally quiet and well worth the effort. The access to the beach, however, crosses private land and as such it’s a bit of a walk before you even get to the beach. Once on the beach, the open aspect gives views to Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle to the north and Bamburgh Castle and beach to the south.

The beach is also an important nature reserve and is home to a colony of seals as well as nesting birds in the dunes above the beach. Dogs, regardless of the high intelligence of the dog or low intelligence of the owners, need to be kept on leads. Walk to the end of the beach and you are rewarded with the navigation aids and hut which can make for striking compositions.
